Lift smarter with lifting straps from ShapeNation
Whether you’re a powerlifter, Olympic weightlifter, or just a weekend warrior at the gym, lifting straps are the piece of gym kit that’ll take your workout to the next level.
Lifting straps – also known as wrist straps – are useful for almost every lifting and pulling exercise. With the best lifting straps, you’ll have the security to lift more and pull heavier.
Not sure if lifting straps are right for you? Have you ever had your grip give out during heavy deadlifts? What about when stepping up your 1-rep max on rows? That’s when weight lifting straps come in and give you the extra stability to go harder.
At ShapeNation, our lifting straps are made with top-quality materials to prevent discomfort and pinching, and chafing. You'll be able to grip heavier weights without pain, slipping, tugging, or discomfort.
You can trust our premium selection of weightlifting straps to help you go heavier on rows, pull-ups, deadlifts, or any movement where you need extra support.
Why do you need lifting straps?
Lifting straps are great for strength training for all levels – from beginners to pro weightlifters. Their basic job is to give you a stronger grip and help you hold more weight than your normal grip allows.
Lifting straps won’t take up a ton of space in your gym bag. They may be small, but they do a lot for your grip.
What do wrist straps do?
Lifting straps work by providing stability at the weakest point of your grip. That’s where your fingers meet. The few seconds it takes to properly wrap up will be worth it when you’re able to bust out a few more reps on the bar – lat pulldowns, pull-ups, shrugs, deadlifts, rows, and more.
If you struggle with a failing grip and grip fatigue on heavy lifts, lifting straps are the answer.

Benefits of lifting straps
Whether you want to perform those final growth-producing reps or you need a stronger grip on dumbbells or barbells, lifting straps have you covered (literally).
Think of lifting straps as your favorite gym partner. They’ll always show up, they won’t interrupt your workout, and they’ll always give you perfect support.

3 main types of wrist straps
There are three common types of lifting straps: single-loop straps, lasso, and figure 8 lifting straps. Read on to see which type can help you lift heavier weight and lift painlessly.
1. Single-loop lifting straps
Single-loop lifting straps are great for all lifting styles. They’re also the easiest to put on. While versatile, single-loop straps offer the least amount of security and anyone with weak grip strength may not get the stability they need.
Even though single-loop straps offer the least amount of security, they are the best for Olympic lifting because they allow you to let go of the bar quickly.
2. Lasso lifting straps
Single-loop lasso straps are highly versatile and used in most lifting styles. They’re often seen in exercises where grip strength is a major player such as deadlifts, pull-ups, and lat pull-downs.
If you’re looking for extra security on the bar, lasso lifting straps are the ones for you.
3. Figure 8 wrist straps
Figure-eight lifting straps are the most secure of all types. They are most often used for maximum pulling exercises such as the deadlift.
There is no quick release with figure 8 lifting straps so we do not recommend these for Olympic lifting or any movement where you need to dump the bar quickly.
Best lifting straps material
The best material and fabrics for your wrist straps are the ones that you find comfortable. There’s no right or wrong answer.
Some materials are better suited for sensitive skin, some are easier to clean, and some take more time to break in. The choice is yours.
To help you decide, here is our take on the best lifting strap material.
-
Cotton – Cotton absorbs sweat and is a fan favorite for lifting straps. The fact that it absorbs sweat helps protect your hands from slipping on the bar. Cotton straps are considered the most comfortable lifting straps. At ShapeNation, our cotton lifting straps have added foam pads to take stress off the wrist during heavy weight lifts.
-
Nylon – We think that nylon feels good on the wrist but can chafe the skin a bit until the straps are broken in. The drawback to nylon lifting straps is that they don't absorb sweat as well as cotton. That might be a problem if you’re lifting in a high-intensity interval training class or sweat a lot. Nylon lifting straps are better suited for heavy lifting though because the material is highly durable and stronger than cotton and leather.
-
Leather – Leather lifting straps aren’t that common… and for good reason. Leather doesn’t absorb sweat very well and it’s prone to stretch. You don't want your lifting straps to stretch during barbell training.

With so many styles of lifting straps on the market, finding the perfect fit can be difficult.
